54 Charles Street, 1839-1840
Throughout the late 1830 and most of the 1840s, newel posts were topped with urns. Based on Grecian urns (which once has lids with finials), the urns resemble the forms that were used in argand lamps of the period. In the background is no. 52 Charles Street, once the home of the 1830s cabinet maker Simeon Haines.
